“BUILD for GEORGE”
Dear Member:
Almost one year ago on March 02, 2007, en route to an emergency call, Windsor Fire and Rescue Service suffered a tragic accident resulting in injuries to four firefighters. Three have made great strides in their recovery and are back to regular and light duties. The fourth, Firefighter George Copeland, was not as fortunate. George suffered a critical spinal injury that forever changed his life, his children’s lives, and the entire firefighting community.
Since the horrific accident George has been receiving treatment as well as extensive rehabilitation at both Windsor and Detroit area hospitals. He has made incredible gains since his original prognosis and now has partial use of his right arm. He is still unable to move his legs and left arm independently, but he has not given up on his recovery.
George is a very positive, inspirational person who has taken on this new path in life with much grace and determination. He is a 15 year veteran firefighter and a proud father of three children; sons Chad and Maxwell, and daughter Tira. George has always been a very active and outgoing firefighter who believes in giving back to your community. He has been a common fixture at community fundraising events for the numerous charities and functions that Windsor Professional Firefighters help to support.
Windsor Professional Firefighters Association along with the Greater Windsor Home Builders Association have recently made the commitment to build and donate a fully accessible energy star rated home for Mr. George Copeland.
Our “BUILD for GEORGE” will take place over a four day period from Thursday, June 26th to Sunday June 29th, 2008. To "kick off" the home build, we will be hosting the Build for George Gala on Friday, April 18th at the St. Clair Centre for the Arts. We are asking for your support to help us reach our goal in providing George with this handicapped accessible home.
